Arcanum XII
The Hanged Man is the pause that changes the view. In this position progress comes from letting go rather than trying harder — a plan is released, a position given up, and something clearer takes its place. It develops deep empathy and unusual tolerance for uncertainty. Its shadow is sacrifice as identity: giving things up long after the giving stopped being useful.
On the inner-self point the Hanged Man describes someone far less decided than they look. On the karmic points it marks the pattern of giving up the thing you wanted for a reason that made sense at the time. At the centre it makes the pause itself feel like the destination.
Notice when the sacrifice stopped producing anything. This arcana is genuinely good at letting go; it is poor at noticing that the letting go finished a while ago.
